According to statistics released by the NSO and as compiled by the MTA (Malta Tourism Authority’s) 2016 Report, business travel performance has continued to improve and escalate in terms of numbers.
Conference and incentive travel delegates
The number in as far as conference and incentive travel delegates has increased by 14% to 98,000 in 2015, from the previous 86,000 in 2014 and 77,000 in 2013 respectively.
The combined number of business tourists in 2015 (business delegates as well as conference and incentive travel delegates) was a whopping 1,791,422 – an increase of 6% from 2014. This is excellent news from Malta that continues to position itself as the ideal conference and incentive destination in Europe, attracting some of the world’s largest firms and brands. Malta never disappoints and repeat business seems to be ensuring these numbers continue to escalate year on year.
Top 5 source markets of business travel to Malta
In terms of the top 5 source markets, statistics show that 24.5% hail from Italy in first position, followed by 15.5% (UK), 7.8% (France), 5.9% (Germany) and 5.4% (Scandinavia).
These statistics were sourced from the MTA’s Statistical Report (2016 Edition) which summarises the key tourism figures for Malta and gives an overview of Malta’s tourism performance in 2015. The report is based on official tourism figures published by UNWTO, Eurostat and NSO, and research findings emerging from surveys carried out by Malta Tourism Authority’s Research Unit.
