Local Restaurant awarded 2 Michelin Stars
ION Harbour by Simon Rogan, a restaurant in Valletta, has made history by becoming the first in Malta to receive two Michelin stars. This achievement is a testament to Rogan’s culinary prowess, who also owns the three-star Michelin restaurant, L’Enclume, in the Lake District. Opened in March last year, ION Harbour has quickly risen to prominence, thanks to its commitment to sustainability and use of local, seasonal ingredients. The team, led by Rogan, Executive Chef Oli Marlow, and Head of Sustainability Keith Abela, has been lauded for their innovative approach to reducing waste and promoting local producers. This recognition places ION Harbour at the forefront of Malta’s culinary scene, which includes six other one-star Michelin restaurants.
DoubleTree By Hilton opens it’s doors
DoubleTree by Hilton Malta, a newly refurbished hotel, has officially opened in St Paul’s Bay, replacing the former Dolmen Hotel Malta. The hotel, part of the globally recognized DoubleTree by Hilton chain, has retained much of the Dolmen Hotel’s staff and offers a range of amenities including a private beach club, a large meeting facility, a spa, fitness centre, and indoor and outdoor pools. While the hotel is now open, some facilities will remain closed for further works. The brand, known for its signature chocolate chip cookies and full-service offerings, adds a new dimension to Malta’s hospitality scene.
THE MALTA INTERNATIONAL FIREWORKS FESTIVAL 2024
The 2024 Malta International Fireworks Festival, a cultural spectacle of color and sound, is set to dazzle audiences worldwide from April 20th to 30th. This year’s festival, organized by the Ministry for Tourism and Public Cleanliness and the Malta Tourism Authority, will celebrate Malta’s rich fireworks tradition with events across various locations, including Valletta, Marsaxlokk, Nadur, and Mellieħa. The festival will feature competitions among local fireworks teams, judged on creativity, color, music synchronization, and technique. With a range of experiences from ground fireworks displays to traditional village festivals, the festival promises a memorable experience for all, culminating in a grand finale at the Grand Harbour.
