Celebrating the Baroque Identity of Valletta

Music to our ears

A niche group interested in classical music and opera, originating from the Netherlands participated in a tailor-made programme organised for them around the festival. The Valletta International Baroque Festival brings together a harmonic blend of top local and international baroque artists for a fortnight in January. Most of the concerts take place in the historic Manoel Theatre, extending to the impressive St. John’s co-cathedral and other churches and baroque palaces in Valletta.

A harmonious experience

The Dutch tour operator specialised in classical music tours together with their local DMC partner wanted to create a lasting trip, rich with music, culture and gastronomy for their high-calibre guests, whilst allowing them some free time to explore the city highlights individually.

A recurring affair

The participants were very satisfied at the end of the tour and the agency promoted the trip once again for the next year.

Accomodation

The participants were accommodated in Valletta for 7 nights and the package included 5 concerts and 5 private cultural visits.

Itinerary

Their itinerary included a visit to Malta’s capital city Valletta including St. John’s Co-Cathedral which took place before the The King’s Consort concert at the Manoel Theatre. On the third day the delegates visited the prehistoric temples of Tarxien and the unique Hypogeum of Hal Saflieni after which they enjoyed a dinner in Valletta before the Girolamo Abos concert at Ta Giezu Church.

An excursion to Gozo, Malta’s sister island was to follow and on Day 5 they enjoyed a midday concert in the All Souls Church in the Bach Cello Suites and lunch in the “The silent city” Mdina. A visit to Hagar Qim temples and the traditional fishing village of Marsaxlokk was of course a must.

A musical evening

Bach’s Goldberg Variations concert at the Manoel Theatre and dinner followed this. The last day was dedicated to the visiting of of the Three Cities, after which delegates enjoyed a beautiful dinner in Valletta before Bach’s St John’s Passion concert at St. John’s Co-Cathedral.
